I have a '47 8N. Has always ran great but started to act like it was flooded and not start. After setting a few minutes it would start, blowing black smoke out the exhaust and run good. next no start at all! remove drain plug gas would run out no prob, with gas turned off and a squart of B 12 she would start. I got a kit followed the instructions here to rebuild carb and now she cranks but no start. no even with the squart of B 12. I have spark and a good gas flow. Anyone have an idea why she won't start? 'Im lost at the moment. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated, Thanks

I'm only recently back into this technology of my youth but it sounds like a carb rebuild problem. Your starter fluid start shows that spark and air are sufficient that leaves fuel. I would start at the gas tank and work step by step but it points to the carb.

Please post your results.

Best,

Rick

Do you have an inline filter? Sometimes when you kill engine, cut the gas off, the gas in the line and filter drains into carburetor and result in flooding.

Thanks. I did not use wire. The carb was actually very clean I sprayed B 12 after a 2 day soak in cleaner. I will tear it down and go through it again and see what happens. Thanks again.

If you still have good fuel flow out of the plug on the bottom of

the carb, then I would guess you missed something inside the carb.

It sounds like you've gone from flooding to no fuel.

You can take it back apart, double check everything and put it

back together if you have to. Did you run something through all

the passages? Small wire, guitar string, weed eater cord?

Carb cleaner and air aren't always enough to get it done.

Could even be a chunk of dirt that broke loose during cleaning.

Or, you might find one of these. This was in a carb when it broke.

The needle dropped down into the seat and shut off the fuel.

No fire at all except it would fire on a shot of ether.
