now the jubilee is acting up

ok i dont know who i agravated but per my other post you know my usual mowing tractor has already had problems, for the last 2 days ive been running the ford jubilee and brush hog in the heavy stuff, it usually does great but each day, after running app 2 hours or even more at indicated pto speed or a litte above, [ very little] all of the sudden it will run very rough, drop cylinders maybe backfire, id suspect electrical, but the problem can be overcome by advancing the throttle almost up to 1350 indicated, after about 10 minutes it can be slowly brought back down to the original setting, which could be a carb problem,it seems to me if it was electrical, advancing the throttle would make it worse, not better, im pretty familier withthe 50 tips even though those actually are for the N tractor, so to fix this what would cause the engine to do that after that much time running, 2 hours is long after the usual coil or condenser issues isnt it? what in the cartb would cause problems at mid range after that kind of time?
fuel pee stream steady is available at the carb plug, when it runs rough

when it runs rough and backfires, does a lil choke help?

if you let it shutdown , for the heck of it verify spark is good.

thanks sounguy i'll try that i hadnt though of the choke, this tractor for some reason never needs it even in the dead of winter or after sitting for a period it will always start right up like it was just running
, just trying to figure out what i need to dig into to fix it, its rough enough to make one think its going to up and quit, which isnt good when im a mile from the house

When it happens do you smell any fuel; is there any smoke (rich)?

Backfiring sounds lean.

When you advance the throttle and it smooths out are you still under load with the mower, or at idle?

Seems like carb related.
Sticky needle, float, (?)

Carb to manifold bolts snug?

no smoke out the exhaust that i can see, when i advance the throttle im still under full load with a 5 foot brush hog engauged, when it does it again, im going to give it a little choke before i grab the throttle and see what that does, if it smooths out that would indicate its running lean and may be litteraly running out of gas, even though the mixture screw is set as per the manual, some of the stuff im cutting is at least as high as the running boards on the tractor, and pretty thick, so it working pretty hard

Sound to me your running HOT. Check for crud on radiator. Is fan belt tight and good.
I installed a window screen on grill on Ford 600. Some still gets thru like dandelion fizzies. Need to stop and clean off both radiator and grill. The only problem not solved is the weed seed entrance at the bottom of grill and radiator space. Have thought of stuffing some fiberglass insulation in that void for a temporary screen.
this is a issue in all most all older Fords.

How about something like the cow catcher on a train or any kind of front outrigger that would knock the seeds from the plants before the face of the tractor, the grille itself, knocks them off the plants right in front of the rad?

Just a thought.
