I thought I had a 2N ford. 3 speed transmission,
has a small 2n on the front cowel. Person I got the tractor from told me he got the cowel from someone else and wasn't sure the tractor is a 2N. Reading somewhere in the forums on 2N fords think I read that the support to the front axle is a key identifier Have included a picture of the support on the tractor I think is a 2N. Would like to know what I have.

On that flat spot just aft of the oil filter, behind the black cable?
is the serial number. If you can read that, it will help identify what
model the engine is from at least. Engines can be changed.
Oval radius rods and steering arms on the front spindles look 2N.

Hi Royse,
Serial number looks like 9125549. Tractor was bought new by a person where I live. He passed away and another person bought from his family. Another person bought it, sold it to my neighbor, and I bought it from my neighbor. Had to totally rebuild the engine. Machine shop bored out the block for .090 sleeve and piston set. The sheet metal is excellent on the tractor. It has the distributor in front and I have changed it over to electronic ignition 12 volt negative ground.

Hi Mark,
Thank you for the response. I have been representing it as an 2N on our website so hope it is a 2N.

9N and 2N both had serial numbers that start with 9N then the rest of the serial number so that 1 is likely to be an N. The radius rods say 2N by the way

It is really nice when you can know the history of a tractor.
Especially nice when it is all local!
I'm not making sense of the serial number yet.
9N/2N serials started with "9N" as Old said.
But, if it were 9N25549 it would be a 1940 9N that should have
the I-beam radius rods. If it were 9N125549, that would be a 1943
2N, which if I have it right, should also have the I-beam radius
rods. The radius rods obviously could have been changed also.
There should also be date stamps on the rear axle trumpets and
the bottom of the hydraulic pump that could help narrow down the
year the tractor was built if we can't figure out the serial number.

Royce,

Serial number was difficult to see correctly. I may have a number wrong or a digit missing. I was able to talk to the person who bought the tractor from the original buyer.
This person, 2nd owner, told me the tractor was a 1946.Certainly appreciate your interest and help.

Royce,
Checked the serial number again with a flashlight. Looks like the number on the engine is 91255449 and number on the rear axle trumpet looks like A104 which is probably a casting no.

If it is 9N255449 that would put it in the 1946 range.
1946 2N 9N198731 - 9N258503 or 9N198767 - 9N258539
depending on where you look. Either way it fits.

Hi Royce,
Thanks for your continued interest in identifying my tractor. I'm convinced that is is a 2N Chris
