rear tractor weights

I bought an 8N the other day. There was a pair of rear wheel weights between the fender and wheel. They were like saddle bags and must weigh 400-500 lbs. each. I would post a photo but don't know how. Also, have a steering wheel that want come off. Three prong pulley with at least 100 lbs. of pressure and want pudge. Any suggestions. Have use 1/2 can of blast off.

My steering wheel was the same. Played with it for an hour.
So I lit a hand held propane torch and I lightly heated the serrated part that mounts on the steering shaft. Gave it a sharp tug and it almost knocked some of my teeth out.

When I installed it I smeared some anti seize on the shaft first.

Those axle weights have their advantages and disadvantages.
Advantage: Ballast is good!
Disadvantage: You are carrying that weight on the axles. Wheel weights or fluid don't add any weight to the axles.
Forum member Texas! has slathers of those axle weights. I think he hoards them down there.
They might have come from a southern foundry as I have never seen a set on a tractor up here in MN.

The axle weights weigh 350 lbs each if they're the same as mine.
Heat the hub of the steering wheel red hot with an acy/oxy torch and it will come off.

I use Amsoil MP and I don't think anything beats it for speed and rust-busting.

Further on is the best puller method by Royse, that I didn't see until after I rigged up my own method.

If you do use heat, apply it to the top 1/2" of the hub where the shaft spline sits. If you heat the whole thing red you'll probably set any grease and felt washer and penetrating fluid to smoking.

ditto on the anti seize. I lov ethat stuff on steer wheels.

I'v ehad em bad that i had to cut the hub off. and some soo loose tha tthe wheel came off in my hands after unscrewing acorn nut with my fingers!
