I am new owner of a 1950 8N,what octane unleaded fuel should I use? Is there an additive I should mix with the fuel.

thanks in advance.

The cheapest stuff you can buy will be just fine and so snake oil additives needed. The gas of way back when it was made was the cheapest one could buy and most was a low octane used by farmers since it was very cheap

Regular gas is fine, no additives needed.
Keep the fuel, the three screens and your gas cans clean.
Congratulation on the new tractor!

N engines powered tractors, irrigation pumps, Ferris Wheels and Tilt A Whirls, chippers, balers, combines and probably other things but I've never heard of one powering an airplane where fancy fuels are required.
Buy cheap gas and if you're lucky, run a lot of it.

It's surprising what these tractors will run on. While blading our road I had an unusual brain cramp and ran out of gas in my 46. I forgot that I had already switched to the reserve. Nearest gas station was 15 miles away. I could have pulled it home, instead I put a gallon of gas that had been in a pickup that had sat for about 5 years. I poured some on the ground and lit it. It burned but did not flare. It started right up and ran fine all the way home.

Seafoam:

Some may call it snake oil, others swear by it,

I use it in my old tractor from time to time, also my tiller, lawnmower, chainsaws.

I think it keeps them running smoother and will help if you get any moisture in the tank.

New to you tractor: check that differential oil, transmission oil, those sumps many have moisture in that oil. If the oil looks like cream it has water mixed in the oil, gets in there through leaky seals.
