I have a 1951 8N that starts right up and idles great, but when I advance the throttle it starts to die out unless I pull out the choke about half way. I cleaned out sediment bowl and screen, changed plugs distributor cap, rotor, condenser and points, and yes I drained it and put in fresh gas. the carb is a zenith and is only 3 1/2 years old, it was running great 3-weeks ago???? any and all suggestions welcome

Pull the drain plug in bottom of the carb and MEASURE the amount of fuel you get. It should fill a pint jar in 2 to 3 minutes. Anything less is fuel starvation time.

i'd agree with those that said you have a fuel delivery issue.

it's starving or leaning out at throttle.. which is why choke helps it.

Well I was filling a 20 oz bottle in about 2 3/4 min"s, so I pulled carb off and took it apart and pulled every jet I could fine out & cleaned them, will put it back on Friday to see if it works. Only thing is it looked nice and clean with out any obstructions?????

You know there are THREE filters/screens, right? One on top of the shut off assembly that sticks up into the tank. The screen on top of the bowl, and a cylinder shaped screen that fits into the elbow connector at the carb.

You need to make sure all of them are clean.

Are you opening up the fuel valve all the way? If so, you are now drinking from the "reserver" which is the bottom gallon of the fuel tank, which is where all the bad things settle. Dirt, rust fines, etc. You only need to open up the valve about two full turns.

I went through the same thing when I first got my 8N about seven years ago. The tank was full of crap. I removed the tank and took it to a radiator shop to have boiled/steam cleaned. I replaced the fuel line and all filters, shut off assembly, and cleaned the carb.

Haven't had a problem since. Other than once when the filter in the elbow connector came loose and was blocking fuel flow.

Great! But I still recommend checking out the rest of the system and at least cleaning the three filters. That dirt in the carb had to come from somewhere upstream of the carb. If you don't clean out the source of the dirt, your carb will just get plugged up again.
