8n lift drifts down

I have had this tractor for over 10 yrs and just started noticing the lift drifting faster then it used to, about 5 min. from full up with a 6' rake on it, it also knocks a little with a heavy load I am not to concerned about the knock because I don't feel it is excessive as a matter of fact didn't hear it at all today then realized I didn't have my hearing aid in. I removed the right side inspection plate and saw a drip from the cylinder about every 5 sec. so not worried about that but saw activity around either the pump cylinder valve plate or the tube that carries the oil up to the lift cyl. can't be sure which, nothing above the relief valve. Any better way to tell which is leaking before droping the pump. Also when I removed the inspection cover it appeared to have never seize on it as a sealant with no gasket. Is there a product used to seal a cover like that, with the same looks and feel of neverseize I had it all over me and every thing I touched and stuff I didn't know I touched. What ever it is it didn,t leak.

Thanks Bruce for the reply and tip I refer to your tips often and have made a copy to keep with my fo4. I should add the last 25 to it. I know it it isn't from above either the lift cyl or top cover nor up from the press. relief I am leaning toward the tube.It is coming from directly under the inspection opening and a little forward near the area of the tube. I am still wondering if the PO. used neverseize instead of a gasket, it sure has all characteristics of it I know the history of this tractor and that cover hasn't been off in over 20 yrs. and if it is neverseize it looks like it was put on yesterday. Long story short looks like I will be droping the pump someday in the near future. Thanks again.

You're welcome. Glad to help.

" I am still wondering if the PO. used neverseize instead of a gasket,"

I've seen some crazy chit on these tractors, so it could be.

" It is coming from directly under the inspection opening and a little forward near the area of the tube."

Could be a blown gasket.....if it has one!

Anything is possible, that would be the easiest fix. I won't be tackling it anytime soon unless it gets worse. thanks again.
