Starter solenoid

I've been meaning for a while to fix the starter switch on my side mount 8N 12v -G. I think I will have to have a new solenoid cause the one I have now takes a + to activate. The cheapo switch I have in place now didn't last a year and I've been starting by shorting the wire on the solenoid to the top post strait from the batt. Are the original 6v solenoids ok for a 12v system? I had some other stuff I was gonna order from Amzn and I get free ship with $35 purchase so I figured this would b a good excuse to buy more tractor parts. :D

just get an oem solenoid. it handles 12v fine.

that and the trans safety start button and you are good.

I have 6V solenoids on my 12V tractors. No problems so far.

Nice of them to put that "BAT" sticker on the side of it.
Notice that puts the little terminal in toward the block.
They won't work backwards, with the little terminal pointed out.
At least not without some wiring modifications.
