No power to starter switch

Installed new 12v starter started great 2 times, now nothing. checked for power to starter switch there is none. Could the starter relay go out that quickly? By pasted the relay and starter cranked.

If you are talking about the original safety interlock switch on the trans cover, it should not have power on it.

The switch supplies ground to the solenoid. The solenoid is ground activated and "hot" at all times. you simply complete the circuit by applying ground to start it.

Thanks everyone for your info, I replaced the starter solenoid and we have a starting tractor. I recently bought the tractor and I seems the engine block was originally blue and painted red. The history is that the tractor engine was overhauled some time back, why "blue"?

Since the newer fords of the late 60's(?) and 70's were blue and white rather than red and cream, older models were painted blue and white.

Usually this was done to spruce up an old model or to trick buyers into thinking it was newer than it was. Happens quite a bit actually.

Glad you got your machine up and going and thanks for the update.

JC, you are absolutely right saying the switch provides ground to
activate the solenoid, but if the solenoid were good, you should
read battery voltage on the small wire to the switch until the
switch is pressed. Minor detail I know, but it helps when testing.

Exactly right Royse. I was unclear.

Power on that wire confused the heck out of me trying to troubleshoot my dads 8N over the phone. His no start was a grounded wire on the resistor.
