Fuel hose changes

I attended a summer conference here in Missouri and Gates reps. brought up fuel hose changes. There is the old hose specification and the new hose specification. They said there are 40 plus blends of fuel with different chemical additive packages here in the United States and because of these chemicals, new hose specs were needed to prevent premature hose failure. Apparently some states have mandated the new hose and others have not. Missouri has not, Illinois has according to them. He was moving too fast with his powerpoint presentation for me to see more. The new hose can be identified by the word Barricade on the hose itself and I believe he said the hose reel is green in the store. I asked why stock both types of fuel hose and his reply was the chain stores want to remain competitive in their area so you have to ask for it. He said they come in all standard sizes and in a low pressure and high pressure hose as well excluding gasoline direct injection (GDI) which requires special OEM line. Hope this helps. Gerard

Be careful when asking for fuel hose. There is also "fuel injector" hose that is way more expensive than the standard hose and looks identical.

When they started selling corn gas in my area, I bought some and put into my chainsaws, both saws were in the shop in short order to have the gas lines replaced. The gas lines got soft, swelled up would not let the gas flow.

Replaced the gas lines with gas lines designed to handle ethanol gas, but didn't buy anymore corn gas for my small engines.

In my area of west KY we can still buy non ethanol gas, but do not know how much longer it will be available. Most of my small engines, tillers, mowers have newer engines that were designed to use ethanol gas.

But do not know how the old 1957 Ferguson to35 is going to handle corn gas.

At my auto parts store, I have noticed some products that can be placed in the fuel tank that will help the older motors run the new gas.

I had my old 1958 Johnson outboard motor carb rebuilt to handle ethanol gas, but the old mechanic said do not use it if I do not have to.
