tag location

I was out looking at my 47 2n which is in major need of a restoration and on the left side of motor ahead of oil fill tube it looks like there used to be a tag riveted there but the tag is gone what was on that tag I don't have a way to post a pic but would like to see any pic's of this tag. thanks

Sorry, never was any tag riveted to Ford blocks, with exception to maybe the Ford-Ferguson Moto-Tug tractor introduced in 1943 for war time duty at airports and on carriers. the tag though was usually riveted to the side of the seat and would have a serial number beginning with BNO. The regular serial number is hand stamped on a cast boss behind the oil filter. Now what you may be seeing is remnants of a tag that was put there by a commercial or municipal facility that had a fleet of tractors and that is how they ID'd their property.

I was all over that tractor in the past (20yrs ago) and never saw the rivets before it looks to be an odd spot for an id tag that's why I posted the message to see if any one else knew of the reason for it

Some engine rebuilders used to rivet tags on replacement/rebuilt engines.

Also, could have been a property ID tag for a government or commercially-owned unit.
