Carb Question

something is restricting the flow of gas. you will need to check the fuel filter in the bowl d bowl and wipe clean then open fuel shutoff and gas should drip fast to a trickle. fast thru top of bowl. put bowl back back on and check flow at the carb inlet, it should be similar to what it was at bowl. if still flowing well you will now have to go insde carb and check screan there, then the needle and seat by blowing thru it with a little air, MOST likely the needle/seat is blocked with fuel sediment. Change needle and seatto factory spec- float setting(height) setting.Questions ? email me back. Phil

(quoted from post at 21:54:10 07/23/14) I have 8N that will only run and runs good with main needle completely out I have no idea why Any ideas THANKS
ain needle completely removed from the hole (if that is what you mean) vents the bowl to atmospheric pressure & that higher than normal pressure will yield more fuel into the engine. If that is the case, you probably have something causing too much vacuum in the bowl. Could be bad seating venturi, bad gasket, clogged normal bowl venting passages.

hen you say "out", do you mean removed from the carb or just adjusted to outer most limit?

Your carb is dirty.

You have 2 choices: rebuild it yourself or have it rebuilt. Spraying carb cleaner in the carb won't work.

If the carb shack is open, GB in MT does excellent work rebuilding N carbs.

Gary, are you open?

I don't rebuild N carbs anymore. Given the price & quality work they do, I just have carbs rebuilt by a local shop:

Automotive Manufacturers Inc
2400 N Lombardy St Richmond, VA 23220
(804) 321-6861

They do mail order work. And they also rebuild clutches, pressure plates, water pumps, alternators, generators, starters & reline brakes.

By the time you buy a complete carb kit & the cleaning solvent, the $80 they charge for a rebuild is worth it.

K. In addition to what I said above, could be too low float level, restricted fuel into bowl or clogged fuel passage from bowl to main jet to nozzle. Good way to cover/know bowl fuel level (this takes care of fuel into bowl as well as float level) is to view the level while running with a piece of clear tubing connected to the bowl drain:
