Correct Width of Jube Fan Belt

I took my collection of old fan belts down off the wall and lo and behold, one of perfect length for the jubilee. the existing one was too ratty to be dependable, with cuts in the outer layer.

but fan belt theory says that belts should not be buried in the pulley grooves beyond the outer fabric and the existing belt and this new one I've put on ride too deeply.

the belt on the tractor was the thicker segmented kind so it may have been riding on the bottoms of the pulley grooves which would be better than the belt I've put on which is shallow and un-segmented. This belt will last for a while anyway I know, but i would still like to know the precise width of the belt that this engine called for.

Thanks,
Terry

All N's use a 5/8" wide belt. I'd wager your jube is the same.

The 1/2" belt on my worker (need to get a pulley for Delco alt) screams like a banshee at rated rpm.

The one I put on is 5/8" . . . so if that is the widest offered I'll maybe have to look further afield for a 3/4".

This photo is of the one I just put on.

Great, thanks!

Now that you mention it, I don't think that even 3/4 would ride high enough.

But I see on the site you sent me to, that what I need is called a "Classic Cogged V Belt" and a 7/8 would ride nice and high but still sit deep in the grooves.

Much obliged!

According to the New Holland website, the original belt was part
#8N8620 0.63" W x 41.20" L. Remembering of course that many
parts have been changed over the years, this may or may not fit now.
Is your tractor still 6V with the original generator?
You probably told us, but my memory is shorter than.... that belt.

Mine is alternator equipped but it seems like everything I deal with on the tractor, whoever did what, fell short of a perfect job in one way or another. Not sure where they came up with the cast pulley for the alternator -- probably from a generator
but not a Jube one. (?)

JB,
Your belt is riding nice and high on your pump and alternator, so that the edges of the fabric backing isn't getting rubbed in the groove.

So yours is exactly 5/8" wide . . . hmmm

Took some snaps. Like I said about previous work . . . the alternator pulley is too wide for a 5/8" belt. I'll probably find a better one.

Jubilee-5/8
matching the crank and water pump pulley is tops for me, especially that water pump.
alternator......whatever....maybe I'll buy the right pulley, maybe not. I have 5/8 belts running on a couple with 1/2" alternator pulleys. at 2k rpm, they don't go anywhere.

From your pics....looks ok to me.
with that alternator double pulley to get that good alignment,
I'd leave it be...

remember though, I use what I got. the pros will recommend
changing to the correct alt pulley and tweaking your mount to get the alignment right. They are right.
I just like to offer low/no buck options.

I figured . . . it looks nice and beefy. I just looked through a few lighter gage ones that I have that are attached to the cooling fins
but I don't expect yours is one piece.

yes the pulley is a one-piece pulley it is sold
by a tractor parts supply company for the 12
volt conversion kit.

Sorry JB but do you mean that cooling fins and pulley itself are one piece?

In the photo they look like two different metals, that's why I ask.

Thanks,
T

sorry, I thought you were talking about the
alternator pulley.You are correct,the radiator
fan blade assembly and the pulley are two
separate pieces.

We're having a heck of a time. :D

I'm only talking about the "fan" or "cooling fins" on the alternator itself.

Sometimes the pulley and the alternator cooling fins are one piece and sometimes they are not.

I had to replace the plastic cooling fins at the back end of the motor on one of my compressors. According to the parts list it was called the "fan". So technically the cooling fins on your alternator constitute the alternator "fan" as well.

Everyone must be getting a kick out of this.

You last wrote:

"yep, alternator pulley and alternator are two
separate parts."

Of course, they always are.

Here's all I've been trying to find out.
Does your Alternator pulley come already fixed to the ALTERNATOR FAN or are they two separate parts.

Here is a photo of an alternator pulley and an alternator fan that come as [b:68de0fe46a]a two piece assembly[/b:68de0fe46a].

Is yours one piece or two pieces like in this photo?

We just have to get our wires uncrossed this time. :D
