Stuck Engine on 2N

I recently acquired a 2N from "my brother"s wife"s cousin". He said that it ran great and he parked in inside last year, wouldn"t crank this year, he thought the starter was stuck. I pulled the starter and discovered the engine is stuck, drained oil, looked good, had antifreeze in radiator (new one), pulled the plugs and tried PB Blaster until it ran out the carb. It still wouldn"t budge, rocked it for days and more miracle cures, nothing worked. Pulled it in shop today and pulled the head, it really looks good, pulled the manifold and valve covers, valves are all free. Cut a block of oak to fit and have tried to get something to move, nothing. It"s setting there now with ATF and Acetone. # 3 & 4 will seep through within an hour while #1&2 still hold the miracle cure. How muck force do I put on my shop hammer (4 Lb) when I try it again tomorrow? I"ve gotten pretty aggressive today with no luck. Tried a pry bar on the starter ring, nothing. Any other hints other than pulling the pan and trying to drive them out the top? This tractor has new tires front and back, new radiator, Sherman step up and motor was supposed to have been overhauled about two years ago. I have my money"s worth in just the tires, but really don"t want to part it out.

I would just be patient. ATF/Acetone and gentle tapping with
your block and hammer will free it up sooner or later.

probably being redundant saying this. but make sure clutch is blocked when you to the beating on the wood with the hammer.

I have also left them in gear and rocket them back and forth by the rear tires. usually once you get them moving a bit.. they move.

one word of warning. it's not unheard of for one of the pistons to push a jug up if they are stuck real bad and you get the crank moving..

Get the PB out and fill it up with ATF and walk away from it for say a week. Be sure to put the plugs back in to keep junk out. Then after a week put a 12 volt battery in it and pull the plugs and use short fast taps on the starter. I never use acetone just straight ATF. Have freed up a good many engines that way

Hit the block of wood like you are driving in a ten penny nail in hard oak. If you do it much more you risk ring damage. Patience is the key. I had one stuck for decades that came loose after a month of daily raps on each piston. I hit each one probably five times every evening. After it freed up I ran a bead hone through the cylinder at BDC and cleaned it out with ATF, then oiled the cylinder. Mine runs great and only slightly smokes under a stout load.

In case it did register...patience...atf...patience, tap, patience. I just loosened up an adjustable wrench after a five day atf squirt. It looked like a door stop but now is a usable tool. I learned about the atf miracle cure from this board and most likely from old, hobo, or toh...one of the scholars who share their knowledge with us nubies.

I believe that was me Fuddy Duddy.
I had a stuck engine in a tractor with a loader in the way, ATF,
Brake Fluid, Diesel fuel etc had not freed it after months of soaking.

It is spendy, but I thought "well, it has a money back guarantee"....
It worked, so I never got to test the guarantee.
The instructions do seem to say the guarantee is only good if
you follow them exactly. Adding more daily, impact wrench, etc.

I'm still using that tractor, it doesn't burn oil or smoke a bit.
Maybe all the other soaks loosened it up first, but it wouldn't turn.
Took three days with this stuff IIRC.

My 8N hadn't run or been turned over in 34 years and was stuck solid. Mystery Oil for a week. And then for one day: one part ATF and three parts Acetone. It broke free while the Acetone was bubbling in one of the cylinders. Yes, I would say patience is best.
