Will not charge bat.

New gen-polorized---no indication on ampmeter

jump fld to gnd----no indication

jump fld to gnd and bat to arm----reads full discharge.

what is this indicating???? bad reg??

"jump fld to gnd and bat to arm----reads full discharge"

Is this with the engine RUNNING?

Is the battery polarity still (+) ground?

Does the ammeter read correctly... does it show the small current draw of the ignition system as a slight discharge reading?

First, check out tip # 23.

That's how to polarize the generator.

Try using the troubleshooting chart instead. It will solve your problem & not burn up your v/r.

All steps resulted in NO.
motors ok in last step.

Another thing I discovered is that metered volt across bat is 6v not running and 0 volts when running

This doesn't add up somewhere along the line.
When you are measuring the voltage across the battery stands out.
0 volts? Are you using an analog voltmeter? The digital ones,
especially cheap digital ones, do not like the electrical noise
generated by an old tractor generator.

lets back up. either your meter is not working correctly.. or you may be using it incorectily, or it is 100% incompatible with brushes and points. Many cheap VOM's are jumpy with brushes.. but still work.

no way you should measure 0 across the bat ever, when it is charged and machine running or not.

lets back up.

you say gen motors with field jumped to ground and arm to bat.

try that again with no field jumper. does it motor weakly? not at all? try to turn and stops? or run just the same?

(quoted from post at 14:32:20 07/15/14) motor test her.

engine off, belt off.

jump field to ground and bat to arm

should spin

Ran all running tests on the chart.
All results were NO except last one which was yes(shows full charge) recommended action was to replace regulator. Replaced with a new Borg Warner regulator.

Still does not charge------reran the check list and get all same results.

RE Polarized both gen and reg
