piston rod bearing nuts

Do I need the sheet metal keeper nut on them I lost 2 or 3 and was wondering if I'd be fine without them or do I need them?

Nick, they are unnecessary,Just be sure to torque all the nuts to the proper spec. and if you are worried that they will come loose just use some loctite on them.

Someone may shoot me here, but I make my own.
To me they are just keepers, not integral parts.
However loosing a nut can be a very bad idea in my mind.

hen young, wife used to worry about me losing one or two, but now that old, she doesn't care..

Slow tractor 'problems' day.

In aviation, they are called PAL NUTS.... currently, there are some on fleabay for the hundred series Ford tractors as well as others shown. Note the bolt size and thread pitch and stop at your local airport maintenance shop and ask the question..

You don"t need the keepers but you do need new rod
nuts. Don"t use the old ones. I could not find them
in the parts store for this site but nnalert has
them and may be other sites.

Thanks everyone Im not to worried about them coming loose I just wanted to make sure I didn't need them. I had sawdust on the floor for the oil that was dripping and dropped them in that

Should be mentioned that Loctite is only going to be effective on a lacquer thinner (or acetone or alcohol or whatever) cleaned rod bolt.

The automotive machine shop told me that they are old technology. The correct procedure is to rely on the bolt stretch provided by the correct torque.
