Update on front wheel seals 1950 8N

I wrote in a week or so ago about trouble I was having trying to figure out the front wheel seals. I had called the vendor and he told me to put the metal side toward the bearings. When I told him mine had no metal he said he would send me new ones. here is a picture of the seals side by side. the solid black was what was sent with the front bearing kit. The one with the metal side is what he sent as replacement They fit and work well. I don't know what the black ones would fit.

I can't say for sure either TJ, but possibly the inside of that metal ring?

The wheel bearings are a common size, used in many
applications, not just N tractors. The seals are
often different, depending on the application. I
suspect that the dealer bought sets from a vendor
who represented them as fitting the 8N, when in
fact the seals were for a different application.

Unfortunately, this sort of thing is happening more
often these days.
