Sorta new guy here

I joined a long time ago looking for help with my dads machine. Now I wanted to share a quick pic of my newest "toy"

Trades for this 8N back in May. Someone really loved America and decided this think should be red,white, and blue. The blue looked as if it was brushed on at noon on an august day. Dried instantly leaving massive brush strokes all over.

Here's what it looked like when I got it




First thing I did, actually before I even got the tractor, was hunt down an original snow plow. Then last week I was so sick of the blue I took a few days and $60 worth of paint and this is the result:




I realize the paint isn't exactly correct (a bit light) but it's close. And the wheels got sprayed red for now out of simplicity. Then will get painted correct when I paint the sheetmetal the correct gray.

Also, I know there are rare beasts, but i would like to find the Aluminum cylinder head I hear exists for these

I'd just like to find a bunch of the vintage old rare stuff. lol

trying to piece together an original tool kit now, and have a lead on a sherman trans.

I've never seen an 8n with the aluminum head. would just like one to be different

Beautiful. I really like the plow too. Nice touch. I need to find one of those someday.

Well I wanted to resurrect this thread to show how far my tractor has come. Granted it is not a show piece like Dscott's machine!

I had originally intended on painting all of the sheet metal the correct gray and doing all of the proper body work. However I realized that if I put all that effort into it, I would never want to use it for any type of work. Also, the previous owner was not much for originality, and while the tractor looks good in the pic, he actually hacked up the hood quite a bit to fit a new radiator in. Since the hood was so "modified" underneath, I figured no sense is making a show piece!

I know the gray is a lighter than original, but again, I'm using this purely because its available at TSC.

In addition to a paint job, I'm trying to add as many original accessories as possible. i swapped the dash to the 50+ dash with a proofmeter. I added the rear tail light and work light. I added a Hapco Air Cleaner, and a repop foot feed throttle. and most recently I put in a Sherman Step-up trans. Not to mentiond just about everything has been refurbished on the tractor- basically completely new electrical system- new larger generator, new wiring harness, VR, etc. new brake seal job so she actually stops now!

Now the only problem is I dont want to put in back out under a tarp anymore! Gonna have to build a shed for it before winter.

I'm having trouble uploading the rest of the pics, I'll post more once I am able too.

Cast iron heads are the best; not to mention any process like resurfacing used to cost double for aluminum. Aluminum blocks like in those that were Crickets and Colts and Vega's and Aspens are essentially DISPOSABLE engines -- unless one happened to be lucky enough or crazy enough to seek out the lone facilitity in this area that would rebore them.

And there's my anti-aluminum rant for the day.

but I guess if Edsel's were collectible, then so is an aluminum head.

Besides just looking good, it slows the rust!

I don't see where you're located, I'm in Michigan.
If you need to move snow with that blade, you'll
want to look for some tire chains and weight too.
I have a front blade on my 2N. Its not pretty, but
it will move a lot of snow with chains and weight.

Actually if you have a lot of snow to move a bigger tractor, with a heated cab and snow blower is the ticket! You couldn't give me a snow blade for one of my N's. That 1206 112 PTO HP Farmall with aftermarket cab with heat beats an N hands down when it's -20F and you got snow to move!

If I could do it any way I wanted, I'd still put the snowblower in front.
Like this 2000HP+ But if I'm doing it with an N, I like weights and chains.

I'm in PA and it wears chains in the winter for snow. No weight but I hadn't really had any issues.

You can see the newly added sherman OD lever sticking out there. Also for the ford lettering on the hood I lettered it by hand instead of a decal.
