9N/sherman question

I believe they were not made for the 9n but were made for the 2n and up. The 9n had a straight (9n7113) gear, in order to use the sherman in a 9n you would have to change out the gear to a (2n7113) helical gear

reason I asked my brother claimed yesterday that our 9N had a Sherman. this was a 9N that had the four spoke steering wheel, lift out battery cover, starter button on dash and glow light. I rode that machine hundreds of time and never noticed a Sherman.

One of my early '41s had a sherman also but the gear was changed out. It only goes to reason that if they were building them at the same time as the early 9n's they would have made them in straight cut gear but in all the shermans I have pulled over the years in 9n's I have never seen one with the straight cut gear.

good enough for me. I will have to question my brother some more next time I see him.

thanks.

like most retrofits. probably not a big job back in 1940 ( labor $ cheap ) to change out the gear and add the sherman at the same time... for an upgrade to an existing machine..e tc.
