Ford 8N Freeze Plugs

I had a leak around one of the freeze plugs in the
block of my 8N. I purchased 4 new ones from
nnalert. However, they are too small 1 and 3/16.
Do they come in different sizes? I think 1 and 5/16
would be correct for my old Ford.

With one exception, the Welch (freeze) plugs on an 8N are 1-3/16” (NAPA 219-1021)

The exception is the one that covers the rear end of the cam shaft. That one is 2-1/16".

That is the correct size (ASSUMING you have measured the new part and it is that size).

If it doesn't fit someone has "re-engineered" your block, or you do not have an 8N, in which case you may want to peruse the most excellent site liked below.!

Alright, great information but; I put the freeze plug in, flattened it out and it does not snug-up against the shoulder of the hole. I will measure the part but it does say 1 and 3/16 on it. Any other ideas would be very much appreciated. I really depend on the old 8N for mowing grass in the barnyard.

I went to NAPA this weekend and took the 1 3/16 freeze plugs with me. They happened to have the next two larger ones ( 1 1/4 and 1/3/8) so I purchased one of each ($.52 each). Turns out that the 1 3/8 plug fits perfectly. I guess someone has re-engineered the block on my old Ford 8N. Thanks for all of the help and advise.

I have a 1951 model 8N engine (automotive-type distributor) that I'm in the process of overhauling prior to installation in my tractor. I noted the freeze plug sizes in some of the posts ranged from 1-3/16" to 1-3/8". All four (4) of the plugs in my engine (all located on the 'starter' side of the engine) are the 1-3/8" version.
