9N trans input shaft + a clutch/flywheel install question

My 1941 9N has a differently designed input shaft bearing retainer for the transmission (I think that is what it is called) from the one shown in the F04 manual. The gasket which I got from Ford New Holland is smaller than the original and has ears on it, while mine is square and larger. Also, there are roller bearings on the shaft, not what appear to be tapered bearings in the manual, and a snap ring/C-clip on the shaft, again not shown in the manual. (The seal from Ford New Holland does fit, and I have replaced my tattered original.) The input shaft, which I wanted to use to align the clutch when I put the tractor together, will not come out, without I fear, battling that snap ring. Years ago, in an engine rebuild, I put the clutch back on and reassembled without an alignment tool or the input shaft. Dumb luck? Question, is eyeballing the clutch or some workaround a viable option (still) for clutch reassembly or should I get the 7.00 alignment tool (and probably never use it again)?

I just did a split on a 2N and would suggest you buy the alignment tool. I've done a lot of car and truck clutches and it's nothing like rolling two tractor halves back together.

"should I get the 7.00 alignment tool (and probably never use it again)?"

Either that or disconnect the input shaft from the trans and use it. You should replace the trans input shaft seal while you are in there and you have to remove the shaft to do that. Then you could take a picture of this shaft and let us see it.

Sherman step-up it is. I never knew about such a thing! I'll either get the tool or fabricate somethins, BTW.
