Air cleaner cleaning

Finally gots a air cleaner for SadieMae after using window screen for the BIG chunks but appears PO may have run filter without oil plugging it up. So, simple as it should be I must ask the following silly question --->

How in the world does the bottom screen come out to get cleaned?

And then when I fill oil cup I presume the tube will be sitting in oil in center cup???

the retainer can usually be pried out.. or some opt to just submerge int heir parts cleaner or in a 5g bucket and clean.. agitate.. etc..

The bottom has a press fit into the sides. Get a good light & if your eyes are like mine, your reading glasses. You will find where the tabs are to pry it open. Once you get it apart, plan on a good soak in your favorite degreaser for a few days. It will clean up .

If you can salvage the old mesh, soak that along w/ the canister. If you need new mesh, plenty of places have it. It comes in a roll. The filter takes 2 rolls. Steel wool won't work.

Hint: Wrap the mesh around the breather tube (it is the same diameter as the tube inside of the air cleaner) Or, use a tube of caulk. Place the breather tube (or caulk tube) against the tube in the air cleaner & slide the mesh off, into the air cleaner. Otherwise, getting that mesh rolled tight & back into the air filter is like getting used toothpaste back in the tube.

Don't forget to replace the cork gasket in the bottom of the canister. If you don't, it will suck air & leak oil between the cup & canister.

Bruce, the one I got has a single screw holding the ring that holds the cup in place like the 'Air Cleaner Clamp Part Number 311508' this site sells. Could just be built up paint makes it appear not removable. At least 3 differant colors.
Tractor down for something else so have time to look deeper into filter.
Thank You for the help.

SG, not sure price of K1 vs diesel but both are a lot plus I still got 5Gal K1 from cleaning tranny with water seperated can siphine off cleaner stuff plus some clean stuff.

Get the filters out, get a coffee can 1 filter and enough gas to cover it doesnt need any more let it soak 15 20 min dunk it up and down hang it to drip dry. Same with the other one in clean gas. Spray them with a can of $2 walmart spray brake or carb cleaner, spray the housing with carb or brake cleaner an rag dry, less then $10

Nothing is cheap anymore. I use mineral spirits most of the time for parts cleaning and soaking. That goes for about 10-11 dollars/gallon now so kerosene might be a little cheaper.

OK it's daylight and cleaned glasses real good. Found wire brush.
Upper plate is rolled in place so that's not coming off. YET!!
Bottom plate APPEARS to have been soldered(?) in place.
Oh well, given enough time I WILL win LOL.
I'm thinking propane torch, some pressurized air, turn it upside down and see what I can break. WooHoo time to break things ~GRINZ~

i've dropped down to diesel for cleaning.. 4$ a gallon or so. though I am working off a partial 35g drum I found. too old to burn in a tractor.. but great to clean with.
