8n top rocker and sensing spring questions

I have a 1947 8n. The top rocker has 3 holes set
in a triangular sort of pattern and a 3/4"
mounting hole. The previous owner used a 3/4"
bolt with a self-locking nut on each end to mount
the bracket to the rear housing. Pain in the
posterior. The outer holes on the rear housing
are 1" and the rocker has a 3/4" bushing. I see
that there is a long pin that was apparently
standard. Question is can I use a plain 3/4" pin
or should I remove the bushing and use a 1"? Also,
my unit doesn"t have the draft control spring
between the housing and the rocker. I just use it
on the rotary mower so don"t really need the draft
control function but wonder if it will cause any
other problem with it missing. Thanks y"all.

I took a second look at the rear end housing holes and see that only the left one is 1" and the right is 3/4". So I assume the "long pin" has a shoulder near the head. n Is this necessary? I suppose I could get a bushing and tack it to the 3/4.

Probably don't need ANY pin at all.......the bushing as you call it is likely a nearly impossible to remove hardened 'roll pin like' affair. Without the spring you may run risk of damaging internal linkages if you ever encounter a situation where top link is pushing toward tractor vs usually pulling away from tractor. This naturally occurs with a plow and blades, etc.

I didn't want to use the original pin since they are very hard to find so I used a 10" long by 3/4"
drawbar pin for my stay chain hooks. I also used a bushing on the base of the pin.

The top link does push toward the tractor when I mow
if I encounter a gopher mound. I"m wondering if
this unit ever had the spring since it also doesn"t
have the small lever on the right side to engage the
draft control. Do you know if it was an option?

ot an option. Some previous owner may have substituted an earlier 9N/2N hydraulics unit in your 8N (if you are sure you have an 8N) where you would have only Draft & no Position control.
