Tires Gauges

What is the best traction for the rear tires on a 2N, "long bar-long bar" or long bar-short bar".

Amp and oil pressure gauge: What color was the original bezel, chrome or black? The face of both gauges was black, correct?

I think beast traction are "Ag-Bars" (Equal length, more straight across angle than others), however road chains fall in opening of cleats, requiring "H" links.
Radials are best, with low pressure as more tire contacts ground, but expensive.
I feel all open cleat type tires are about equal.
In old days, ran factory equipped closed cleat firestone on furrow wheel, and goodyear and Goodrich on uplsnd side, because of better traction.

Black bezels to keep reflections to a minimum.

Some had iron wheels, too. Rubber had priority for war machinery.

However, the N's that were exported to England farmers had rubber tires. FIRESTONES.

Ford was constantly experimenting with tractor tire treads in an attempt to find the 'perfect' one that would apply to all soil conditions. The early 9Ns used a closed center bar 45 degree style then switched to open centers shortly after. Most rear tractor tires today use a 23 degree open center bar style.

On the gauges, you don't say what tractor you are referring to. Early 9Ns and some 2Ns used chrome bezel dash gauges. Then they were painted semi-gloss flat black and remained so up through the Hundred Series.

My 43 2N has mag handcrank no starter,no lights no battery and just a oil gauge. The tires embossed on the sidewall was U.S. Farm Tractor Only Rayon 9X32s. If they sat for a few days they would get a flat spot and when you used it was like rolling a donut with a bite out of it.
