shaky fenders

my jubilee has decided to imitate the tin lizzy when running on a hard surface, the femders vibrate like crazy, no cracks anywhere on either of them and there tight to the mounts i mean air wrench tight, the only reason it bugs me is the harmonic tone they get when they do that, anybody else have that? any ideas this is one of my using tractors and is otherwise in great shape

What air pressure are you running in rear tires? Maybe too hard? Just guessing

im running 10 psi in the rears about 15 in the fronts

How about hard rubber squares between bracket and fender?
I put a couple of thick rubber blocks between my heavy
51 step van bumper spring brackets and the truck frame.

I could bump into stuff without getting jolted after that.

I haven't looked that closely at mine, but the tires are off and I'll have a look.

I'm wondering if an added curved vertical bar added to the existing fender bracket and reaching to the top inner edge,
would cut the present expanse of sheet metal in half
and minimize vibrational resonance

Same problem with my Kubota L1500 on hard surfaces..When ground is dry and hard makes lot of difference..I know why mine does this--it came from across the water where it was a cane field tractor--it has taller than normal tire cleats wish I could grind them down? Reckon I can get by with 7-8 lbs pressure??Wonder how much it would help to widen the rear(change sides with tires.....

I've got the solution for you guys and my Jube too if need be.

Just had a look.
Put a heavy center strip, like a stabilizer bar, from the bottom center bolt on the fender bracket, up to the one top dead center above it. Curve it enough to maximize tire room.

Up on the most vibrational center of the sheet metal above,
thet sets off a higher harmonic frequency . . .
Put a thick rubber block behind the bar,
Drill and tap that location on the bar.

The partially drilled rubber block is held there by a bolt with a fixed washer set back on it that pushes on the rubber.The bolt head side has an extra nut to lock your adjustment and lock the block in place.

You'll actually be able to adjust the sound they still manage to emanate.

But seriously, I'll bet many others would like to dampen down their fenders on various tractors. Can't be that many tractor fender bracket designs. The vertical damper bar could even be made out of one of those existing adjustable draw bar struts and so it would fit more than one tractor model.

To see how well it will work
put the palm of your left hand in the middle away from the bracket arms, and rap the sheet metal with your knuckles.

You wouldn't have to compromise your tires Tom.

They are resonating.

Adjust engine speed and/or road speed to reduce/eliminate.

Alternatively, rear tires with different tread design (more rubber in the center to provide a smoother ride on hard surfaces) will eliminate the problem. Such tires ride and wear better but do not bite as well.

Dean has it right. They will all do that given the right combination of tires, surface, and speed.

you gotta jack up the rear tire and rotate it 15 degrees to offset the balance
