OT: Have to replace the carb on our push mower today. Now I know someone is going to say rebuild it. It's 6 bucks difference in price between the rebuild kit and a new carb. By the time in add in a can of carb cleaner it's about a 2 buck difference. Heck of a notion. Throw away a carb just because.

Rick

I went to till my garden area and pulled out the front tine tiller I bought new in about 1992. Took a can of fresh gas down to the shed but checked the tank first, yep, still had gas from last spring in it. Set the choke, advanced throttle to full, pulled the cord and she fired and ran on the 4th pull. Sometime you just get lucky. Its a B&S 5 hp.

Did the same thing with a string trimmer. It hadn"t run in 2 years. $32 for a kit verses $38 for a complete kit. Changed carb and all gas lines, Runs like a new one.

Boy I must tell ya I have never had to put a new carb or rebuild on lawn care eq. I have 2 pre 1970 lawn mowers. a 1970 era K-Mart rotor tiller and a 40 yr old Ford pickup. The Ford card has been rebuilt 1 time. At the end of season I make sure all the gas is out of the tanks and flush the carb with MMO and pull it through the carbs by putting starter fluid in the cyls. and starting them. Never had a problem. Are you sure the carb is not gummed-up with old fuel that stays in over the winters. Just a thought or Im lucky

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

Yup, forgot to drain the gas out. And this carb is metal, not plastic. 26 bucks for the carb, rebuild kit is 20.
