Center housing...small bolt, NEED ADVICE

Hello everybody, I have a 1948 Ford 8n. The prior owner of this tractor patched a hole of about three inches in diameter on the underside of the center housing (I believe it is called:(Transmission, Case & Clutch). Anyway, the patch fell out and I am ready to re patch the hole...MY QUESTION IS; ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THIS CENTER HOUSING IS THE LARGE DRAIN PLUG, DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE LARGE DRAIN PLUG IS A SMALL BOLT (approx. 5/16 " in diameter, about 1" in length)IS IT IMPORTANT TO KEEP THIS BOLT/SMALL HOLE IN THIS UNDERSIDE OF THIS HOUSING UNIT. DOES IT SERVE A REASON OR IS IT A JUST A PLUG FROM THE ORIGINAL CASTING AN NOT NEEDED? I am so sorry that I could not explain this any clearer. According a web site it appears that it might be called a New Holland Ford Clutch cover to fly wheel bolt... part # 350433S. Any help will be greatly appreciated!

Regards...a weekend warrior, but love that tractor! Thanks,Joe 231.350.0535

I just took a picture of the underside of my 49 8N. The small hole you are referring to is probably the weep hole. It should have a cotter key in it to keep from plugging. It allows the oil that may have leaked from the seals to drip out and not build up.
