2n won't start

My "47 2n wouldn"t turn over today. Ran fine last week, battery fully charged. Tapped on starter - nothing. 12 volt system and I had electronic ignition installed on it 2 years ago. Possible bad solenoid?

2Ns do not typically have a solenoid. They do have a starter switch and I have seen those wear out. With the tractor in neutral jump straight to the starter lug. Report back.

Thanks for the info. When I hook up my jumper cable to the starter lug I then push down on the starter like usual. Not very good on this mechanical stuff

As Harold said, most 2N's don't have solenoids. Does yours?

If so, jump it. (chances are it's not bad though)

Try jumping directly to the starter from another vehicle as Harold suggested. (see tip # 43 before you do that) If it starts, you can rule out a starter problem.

If it starts like that, post back & we will got to Step 2 in troubleshooting.

No. Use jumper cables. Make sure you are in neutral.
Polarity does not matter. Go from one post on the jumper batter to the stud on the top of the starter. Go from the other post on the batter to a good ground on the tractor. Brake pedal works for me. Motor should spin. If the ignition is on the3 tractor should start. MAKE SURE YOU ARE IN NEUTRAL.

OK - I jumped it off my truck and it turns over well and fired. But, I could not start it, I may have flooded it. I will try again tomorrow afternoon. I wondered if perhaps the push-pull key switch was bad as I tried to jump it off the tractor battery and got nothing.

Got it fixed! I had a bad battery that would not hold charge. Cleaned some connections, put in a new battery, runs like a charm.
