The saga continues with my 41 9N. So, my reconditioned crank and new bearings arrived today. I was excited all day to get home and start putting her back together. Flipped the block over after cleaning the coolant ports out with an airgun the best I could. I notice a crack in the back of the block where the oil seal is. So instantly I think cracked block, start over completely. Turns out its a cheap piece of junk pot metal seal retainer. I tried to take the broken piece out and the rest of it just crumbled. Is that the best we can do? I looked on YT and that one looked like pot metal too. I am leary about buying a used one. What do you think? Was my new rope seal really that tight when I put it in earlier?
