Fatal N Tractor Accident

Most of us have been a little careless at times..Hate to hear about such tragedy,,Thanks for the reminder.

I have seen this type accident reported numerous times with the N tractor. That"s why I started pulling with the front of the tractor.

Sadly a friend of mine lost his father to such an accident on a 8N doing the exact thing. Ever see the utube of the guy on 8N with rear tires on backwards pulling from top link?????

I tend to assume when I hear of such accidents that they are the result of the usual suspects, mainly hooking the tow chain too high but also lack of front weight. Both can be remedied, to a degree fairly easily. So one has to wonder whether there are issues specific to the n-series tractors that make them particularly dangerous in this regard, or its just that there are so many of them around, often acting as first tractors for inexperienced users?

I know once the tractor starts going over the lack of down pressure means there is little to stop if, but one would think a little care to keep the attach point low would take care of this.

It's not pulling from the front or back that makes the difference, it's where the chain or strap is attached that makes the difference. In the video above, the tractor has no draw bar or cross bar on the 3 point so the guy sees the top link holes and assumes that's where the chain should attach. First rule of tractor operating is "never" attach a chain or strap to any point above the center of the axel for pulling. "Never"! I'm guessing the guy who was killed made that fatal mistake.
