exhaust valve removal

Hi,
We are trying to remove the valves from an 8N engine during a rebuild. The valve locks at the bottom of the valve stem consist of 2 halves that easily come apart when you clamp the spring. That is, for the intake valves. But exhaust valves have a one-piece lock... not 2 halves that come apart to free up the valve. How do you remove the exhaust valve locks? Thanks for any help.

You must have rotating exhaust valves installed, and you are looking at the Rotocaps?

There IS a pair of "C" shaped keepers ABOVE the rotocap, accessible after the rotocap is removed.

Probably easiest to remove the valve, guide, spring, rotator, etc. as an Assembly after forcing the guide down a bit and yanking the retainer.
