My 2n alternator stopped working. The light/diode stays on all of the time now, Any assistance on where to start would be greatly appreciated. This is my weakest point on this old girl. It is time to learn something new.

Thanks,

Rick

I'll second having it tested. Its free at most places other than
your time and gas to get it there.
You could inspect the wiring if you want to do that first.
Disconnect both ends of each wire, one wire at a time, (if you
have more than one wire) and check them end to end with an
ohmmeter while flexing. Also look for chaffing of the insulation.

This isn't an alternator issue per se, but one of the smartest things I've done (there haven't been that many) is re-wiring my 2n, soldering -not crimping- the terminals, covering them with heat-shrink tubing, and then buffing them up before installation. When I asked an electrician how to protect terminals from weathering he advised me to coat them with a little vaseline during assembly.
