SEAT TIME - Dirt's in the Wrong Place (Machine Shed Update)

Other than a couple remaining skirt boards to install, my machine shed's finally rebuilt from the tornado last year. Well, at least the part the contractor was hired to do - still have to run new wiring and lights and pour concrete in the rebuilt back half (originally dirt).

Which brings me to my 'seat time' for today. When I excavated, I pretty much eye-balled how much dirt I was taking out, and went about 4-6" too deep in places. We had a very nice spring day today, so after dumping a few bucket loads of year-old manure on the garden for Wife to spread, I started shuttling dirt back into the hole using the AC 190:

After 10 loads or so, I'd drag it around with the 8N to get it leveled out. I still have a little more to do in the corners, but it's about where it needs to be now. 6" of compacted gravel and 6" of 'crete will have me a really nice, "new" machine shed.

The tractors seemed to enjoy getting to park there again after being crammed into the smaller shed for the past year.

Just for comparison (and for those who may have missed my posts from last year), here's what it looked like after the wind "event:"

While nothing is PERFECT, those 190 Allis' are hard to beat!!! I'd be happy with a 180 or 185, as well!

LOL and here I'm thinking that the best thing I ever did was get rid of a 190XT series III diesel. Just hated that Power Director. I used it blowing snow. SO I'd be backing up, blowing have to stop, shirt gears, steer, lift the blower and be running the power shift to avoid plugging the blower. I ain't got but 2 hands. True IPTO is fantastic!

That's a pretty good looking shed!

Yep (grin), the 190 definitely gives a workout! It's taken a while, but I've just about got down the delicate dance needed to drive into the pile and work the bucket and lift "just right" with one hand, while holding the hydraulics "on" with a second hand (it pops off when I start to lift otherwise), while steering with a third hand.

Other than the contractor delaying the start of the project several months (leading to the project being done over the winter with constant snows blowing through the gaping hole), I'm quite happy with the end result.

(quoted from post at 08:31:20 04/12/14) Nice job. Hope you are going to compact it before and after gravel and before concrete.

Yep - that's the plan. Did that with my driveway pad, and it's still crack-free five years later.

Say, where did you get that miniature "N" ?

Kidding! It just looks sort of puny next to the other tractor...lol

Definitely! Although, I *did* still find a chunk of ice under some barn tin panels I moved (not to mention there's a chance of snow Monday night). *sigh*

We've has some beautiful weather here, but a little forecast with a chance of snow later in the week. Pretty normal for us, though, this time of year.
