rads 2 types which is correct

I had a leak in my rad ( drove a stick threw it dragging trees) so I get this other one it has a lot bigger rectangular top tank the first top tank is about 13 the size and is more rounded what have I got. the tractor is a 47 2n which rad is better and will they both work. thanks

does it fit? if so.. run it.

biggest problem with repop rads is fittment.. especially at lower hose conenction.

if that works.. run it. Occasionally you can see high density core units.. but even the low density ones will work on an otherwise correctly running machine.

you are running the same size rad essentially as the larger series tractors.

I was told the rad with the rect top was out of a n tractor the guy did not know if 9 or 2 or the yr and the rounded top one was in the 47 2n when grandfather got it early 1970 but don't know if it was correct for the yr or had been replaced.

same rad fits all 9-2-8 N tractors.

very early units had a non pressure rad with a completely different type of neck and cap, and an oversized large top tank.

easy TO id THIS setup as the cap is not like a modern rad cap with external catches, old one has internal tabs / screws in.

My 43 2N has the larger top tank. Make sure and have you pads spacers in place on tank bottom and spacer between hood and top tank. Make sure replacement rad has no leaks before installation. If the one that leaks you can silver seal or builders blocks to stop the leak.

providing the people helping you with all the details is always a good idea.

the older large top no pressure tanks with internal lugs are for the older N.. i'd take a pressure tank over the non pressure ones unless i was restoring a piece that needed to be correct.

That's why they make sharp and mild cheese..Some like one thing and others like the other..Mice don't care...Anyway, I like my old over-sized, non-pressurized radiator on my '47 2N....

This is the non-pressurized style in a '40 9N.
