2N still no start

This is probably an obvious question but I"m going to ask anyway as I"m still troubleshooting a no start problem on my 2N that I believe is caused by my distributor being fouled up. Do the pins on the aft side of the distributor shaft cam weights in picture 1 go in the slots in picture 2 and if they weren"t would an attempted start in that condition cause the condition in picture 3?

ery possibly. How did the pins come to not be in the slots?
 
Had the distributer apart earlier this year to install a new shaft (old lobes were wearing out) and must have missed it on reassembling.
 
So what are you going to have in that distributer after all is said and done?
Counting time, parts and aggravation...
EI would have fixed you up - likely for less dough - and you would have been hassle free.
 
Thanks for your feedback- I tried electronic ignition and switched back- when it fails you're done. I enjoy the troubleshooting- it's great learning experience and break from a professional day job. If I wanted hassle free I would buy a new tractor- $ isn't the issue; not many people these days can keep a 70 year old machine as a workhorse- it's fun.

The broken ear on the shaft looks exactly like what happens if you install the distributor 180 degrees out and don't notice it before you crank the engine.

(Don't ask how I know this one.)
