Lift cylinder question

The lift cylinder on my dad's 8n was scratched and I have been able to hone out all the fine ones but a deep one is barely noticeable now. I am wondering if I need to just replace the cylinder. I would not hesitate, but I am dreading grinding on a new cylinder just to get it to fit, as I understand the new ones are not cast correctly.

I was in a similar situation last October. Cylinder had a steady leak and after tear down a deep scratch. I bought the aftermarket cylinder, the NAA piston and I am satisfied with the results. As you stated I did need to grind the scallop per Tim Daley"s write up. It took all of ten minutes and that"s with me working very slowly and deliberately. I also needed to touch up one of the bolt hole surfaces so the bolt head would sit flush on the cylinder. The cylinders are pretty thick and not as tapered as the originals. All in all not a big deal. Here are some of my references.

Thanks, I have read your article 3 times, great article. I have honed the cylinder out and with advice from a local mechanic may try my cylinder. If nothing else, maybe it will leak down alot slower :). Just wanted to get a guru's thoughts.

Those two guys aren't me. I'm not at their level. I did stay at a Holiday Inn Express recently....

My feeling were to do it all while I had it out rather than piecemeal it and then have to take it off again later when it didn't work right.
