i got rotors from cnh. they were made in mexico..all were offset..put on dist. turned by hand would hit contacts on one side.
 
Have seen/heard of numerous caps lately that have the contacts machined off center. Big rotor gap on one or two contacts, hits on one or two contacts. More imported junk.

Like to add that with todays parts, a very slow, by hand, turning of the engine watching carefully for any cap movement/twitch =stop....is pretty much mandatory.
Also, the days of replacing everything in a good tune-up are over...for me. When replacing worn out points, if the old condenser, rotor and cap are working and not broken,
I clean them up and leave them alone.
New import junk.....if that's all I have, the rotor tip gets some
sanding work. Will the rotor-cap gap be factory perfect? no, but it will run without breaking stuff
 
I also had a rotor break recently (first one for me). I just assumed it was poor fit of the distributor cap to the distributor body that caused it. Hard to say, though.

It broke some of the plastic off the rotor, and spun the contact on the rotor around its rivet some.

The problem manifested as backfiring, wheezing, low power, etc.

When I found the problem, I twisted the contact back into the proper position on the rotor and reinstalled to verify that was the problem.

I picked up a rotor at NAPA for $6. I don't recall if I saw where it was made (I'll check). It will be installed soon.

Just another story to add to the list.
