Nuetral safety mechanism

Hi Guys,
I have a 41 9n. Whoever had it before me eliminated the nuetral safety starting Mechanism and added a newer solenoid. They must have had problems with it because when I removed the starter button, they had added washers under the starter button trying to get more throw out of the rod. It didn't work.
I bought a new solenoid switch ( from this site , under 9N parts ) and it doesn't work. When I removed it I can see that the push rod does not have enough throw to activate the button. Does anybody sell the little flipper and push rod new?? I can't find it anywhere. I thought maybe the parts are just worn and loose.
Is it possible I just bought the wrong solenoid? The one I bought is 1 5/8" from the bolting plate to the end of the button. Seems about a 1/4" short.

Thanks, Jeff

The after market switches were made wrong. the end of them is con caved a little and they should have a protrusion to give them enough length to work. I have been in touch with Tisco and they are supposed to be getting them corrected but I haven't seen any of the new ones yet.

Sounds like you have it figured out as to what they did.
If your linkage actually works, you may be able to add a washer
to the end of your new switch and make it work too.

I don't know if anyone sells the parts new, but good used ones
are probably still around. Maybe John Smith or Jim.UT would have
what you need. For that matter, I might have. If enough snow melts
this weekend I'll go out and look on a tractor I have out back.

The actuator buttons do get gunked up inside and lose travel. Take it off and soak it in a pan of solvent for a while, then work it several times and keep rinsing it to get it cleaned out. That may give you back the extra stroke it needs to make the switch. It's worth a try.

Hi Guys, thanks for the feedback.
I had everything apart including the entire top cover. Everything is clean and working freely.
The button works well.
I thought about adding some weld to the end of the push rod to " pre-press " the switch halfway if I cant find new parts??

Thanks, Jeff

weld would work, though kinda permanent.
I'd drill and tap either the rod or the switch and
thread in a short bolt. The bolt head should take up the space.
(and it's adjustable)
