bendix pin is impossible

im about to loose it.

i cant figure out how to get the pin in there. i could have my entire body weight on a set of pliers adn i cant pull the metal ring down far enough to get the pin in.

suggestions?

I use a vise to squeeze it down enough to install the pin in one side and then slide the drive onto the starter shaft and tap the pin through with a hammer.

In addition to what mhb just said, lightly taper one edge of the pin on your grinder wheel so it will start in the hole better.

A couple or three woodworking clamps will compress the spring and let you get the pin in.

i do the old upside down trick using a vice. spread the jaws to capture the disc.. press down on starter.. hole uncovered.. slip pin in.

I find that the easiest part of working on one..
