2N came with its own Key Ring?

The 2N I had recently bought had a leaking PTO. So while pulling the shaft I figured I might as well drop the pump and give it a good cleaning. No amount of Diesel and other stuff would had cleaned out all the gunk I pulled out of there. (Some how feels like you are violating the tractor pulling that gunk out of the PTO opening, LOL) Got it nice and clean in there. If you have never done that to your tractor you probably should. Only way to clean it is to get in there and do it. Don't cost much in gaskets. Just some work. But it's not that much work.
Anyway, when refilling it I saw threw the refill opening on the transmission shifter what looked like a Key Ring around the shifter shaft. I figured out it must be the top part of the spring that goes around the shifter shaft. Looks like a Key Ring. It is 1 and a 1/4 of a loop. The tractor shifts OK. Should I be concerned about it or just let it go and replace if I ever have the top part of the transmission off for some other reason.

I would fix it. The stick should be a bit loose and sloppy but still work. I did one last winter it just takes some time and a gasket for the tower.

I rebuilt a 9N trans. cover last year. The steel shifter with the spring tension holding it from under the cover, wears the aluminum pocket over the years. I have one lever that dropped so far it was worn on the bottom end by rubbing on a gear. Also, the horizontal pin wears the slot in the tower. I would think the "key ring" is actually the top of the upside down conical spring. It has a keeper at under the cover to keep tension on the lever. Many owners are unaware that the lever can be pulled up and rotated either left or right to provide space between it and the seat spring for foot clearance to get on and off the tractor.

Guess I'll add it to my new list of things needing to buy. I just finished an order of every thing I thought I needed. Guess there will always be more to come.
