8N purchase. Looking for some more information

Hi all! I sure missed posting on here and talking with you all. My wife"s late dad had a Ford tractor dealership in Clare, MI and I am surprising her with an 8N I plan on fixing up for her. It runs great, but looks less than stellar. I"m planning on making sure it mechanically doesn"t have any gremlins work their way out, then will focus on cosmetics. The dealer thought it was a Dearborn loader, which has a hydraulic bucket. What do you guys have to say about this set-up? I bought it for $1900, if that has any bearing on things. Gotta love that mirror they have on there! LOL

You did pretty well if it runs.

With a loader the front ends wear out faster. Check the bolster and the pin/bushing. Spindles and wheel bearings too.

Looks to be an earlier model with the front mount distributor?

I'm not a big fan of the "jungle gym" style loaders that you have
to climb over to get on the tractor. Guess I'm getting old! LOL

I have some of the missing parts. Fenders, grill etc if you need
them. I'm in Ionia county, just off M-66.

I don't have any front end parts for an 8N, which it may need
being it has a loader on it, but our host sells them here on YT.

,While some don't like a loader on an N I love mine. Very useful.But if you plan on doing a lots of other tractor work a second tractor is nice to have.
 
My Dearborn FEL has a name plate on it.
I agree about jungle gym loaders being a pain to get on/off, have to crawl over rearend to use it.
Congrates on the newest member of the family.
 
You need to find some fenders before you let her have it or she may be eating tires. Loader look a lot like many of the dear born loaders but still not like one if that makes sense. Seems to stick out to far forward to be a dear born
 
Nice find! I think you got a pretty good deal if it runs good. Have fun working on it and I hope your wife likes it.

Took me a bit to find them, but here are a couple pictures
of a Dearborn loader I had. Similar to yours, but a trip bucket.
The name tag was on the right side brace below the top cross pipe.

Sorry for the tardy reply. I think that is a Wagner WM3 - the single center mounted bucket cylinder is distinctive and I don't believe Dearborn ever used that design.

something i havent seen on these, why cant one fab up and mount a pair of steps off either the rear end case or the fender mount to make getting on these loader tractors easier?
 
Hi guys. Thanks for the replies. It does seem to run and operate well. Why the rear fenders were taken off, I'm not sure. I'm guessing to make it easier to get off/on. Looking forward to tinkering with this. I wonder what the capacity of the loader will be? Don't want to push it too hard.
 
I would say probably be able to lift around 1000lbs if you have a piece of equipment on he 3 point as counter weight
 
May I share a "Loader" story.
I was at an farm,etc auction a couple years ago in Mexia, TX. Two older fellas were sitting on the loader of a tractor waiting for the action to come our way. One said, "you know these loaders are very handy, ain't they".
The other fella replied, "yes, and the older I get, the handier they are". I am beginning to feel the same way.
 
Thanks for the reply. I'll have to look at the loader for a name plate when I pick it up this week. I'm wondering now if it's a Wagner or a Dearborn.
