Major Stoppage - Over Heating

I'll start by saying this isn't a "N" problem but
I know there are some great mechanics who have
helped me in the past with my "N" who can probably
help now. About a year ago I bought a used Vermeer
trencher, it ran hot so we took it apart and found
a cracked head. It was replaced with a new
thermostat,and radiator professionally cleaned.
Tried to trench a lot of ditch today and the same
problem. I am guessing someone put so much of
something in it trying to help with the cracked
head that everything is now stopped up. My
question is there anything to put in the motor
that will free up the gunk and flush it out or
will the motor have to be broken down and cleaned?

Drain it out and fill with vinegar and run it till good and warm. Let it cool and then if you can back flush it by way of the block drain with a garden hose. It may take 2 or 3 treatments to clean it up but it works most of the time

Ive had the best luck using a high pressure washer one way or the other. Poke it in here and poke it in there and it works!

It sounds like you haven't found the problem. If you suspect a blocked radiator prove it to yourself first. You can use a non-contact thermometer for this or the old fashioned way of letting the engine come up to operating temp., shut off the engine, disconnect the electrical fan, if equipped, and feel the core immediately for cool spots which would indicate blockage. Then flush it if it's blocked.
The information you posted is inconclusive. Overheating concerns are usually related to either air flow or coolant flow issues. It sounds like you have the same symptom so maybe you have the same problem. To provide more help I would want to know what is the time lapse from start-up to overheat and are you using the gauge to determine whether it's overheating or are you experiencing boil-over. And how hard it it being worked before it overheats. Cracked heads are usually a sign of another problem and not necessarily the sole reason for overheating. Hope this helps. Gerard
