Well we got about 9 inches of snow last night with more today and tomorrow--------At last going to get to play in the snow for the first time here in my part of the Commonwealth. Using the '52 8N but with the box scraper on it so might not do too good for the amount and build up in front of it.

Congrates and have FUN!
In my part of NY since last Thursday I've gone thru about 25 gals gas in 43 2N pushing/moving snow, The worst part of refueling is hauling the "safety" gas can and holding it while leaning over the FEL lift arms.
Last Saturday went out and started making wind breaks from snow in horse pasture. More this weekend. That was an enjoyable 3 hours of seat time :)

ell got about two hours on the 8-N and it did a good job. Ended up pushing it for the most part and since most was down hill, on pavement, i would pull up hill and then almost at idle push a big pile down hill. More inbound this afternoon and tonight so tomorrow might be another day of plowing. This tractor has only failed to start one time that i can remember and it was frosted plugs and a over choke on my part. Got from original owner and 200 yds. from my house.

Decades ago, I found that the rear blade was the way to go.

Spent many a night snowplowing the runway, here, at Gettysburg Airport.

Going forward was neat. 3rd. gear with the blade angled abour 30 deg. Really made the snow fly. Gnd speed was pretty fast.

However, later for the parking facility.......had to turn the scraper blade 180 deg. Make the area pretty wide. Reverse gear about the same gnd. speed as 2nd. gear.

The only time we ever used the 1st gear....plowing or pulling the hay wagon while the elders loaded the bales on the wagon.

Therefore, 1st gear in my 9N should be pretty NEW!

Neat and i'll bet you can remember many Stearmans and T-6's landing and taking off there!!!!!! Nothing like landing a touchy tail wheel aircraft on a scraped but re frozen runway!!!!!!!!!!!!

I've always enjoyed plowing snow.
We get it every winter here. That's just a fact.
So you might as well have a little fun with it when you can.
I'm back to using a back blade this year. I do have a front mounted plow but that and the tractor it fits sit forlorn and unused in the shed up at my land.
I'll go wake her up come May.
Tell her the snow is over which she wont like to hear.
But I'll gift wrap a 6 pack of 15W40 and a filter and bring them along to make ammends.

Most of the time we "locked" the tailwheels. Especially on the D-18's.

Wheel landings were always taught on conventional-type machinery.

If'n you start a slid'N, pull back hard on the stick. :)

John,PA Later training wheel, nosewheels.
