8N OT kind of (tire swing)

Has anyone used an 8N rear tire for a tire swing? I've got a perfect tree, two grandkids ages 5 & 6, and will likely have both a 19" and 11.2x28 tire for swing use...

My wife says this is stupid, not having grown up with a tire swing, so I am trying to find reinforcement for this project.

I hung an old truck tire in our tree when we bought the farm… boys were 9 and 12, and that tire swing got a *lot* of use over the years. Still does, when folks with smaller kids come to visit - it's like a magnet.

Something to consider is that a tractor tire has a lot more mass than a car or truck tire - I'm all in favor of kids getting bumped around a bit (builds character!), but the tractor tire might be heavy enough to hurt someone if it catches them up against the tree trunk.

always had a tire swing here for the little ones.
I used a car tire.
In your case I'd probably use the 19.
kids being kids, when they get that 11.2 tire
swinging...which they will...it'll flatten em

A rear tractor tire is both large and heavy for a child swing (though sounds like fun). Might want to consider something smaller, lighter, and, perhaps, potentially less dangerous.

We had a large pick-up tire swinging from a large hay rope for our grand kids and like Ed says it was a "kid magnet" when they would come to our place. Make sure it is out far enough from the trunk so they cannot hit it while swinging.

It"s an old oak tree with a nice, large horizontal branch. As for the rope, it"s 30,000# rated.

I ran a 33x12.50R15 in our old oak and it was hilarious.... At the same time you had to watch the little ones on the backswing. Seems like 2yr olds are predestined to walk blindly into danger.

we had a small tractor tire when we were kids. not hung in a tree though. our backyard had a slight downhill grade so we would take turns crawling inside and go for a spin. like a cheap carnival ride! parents thought we were nuts but did shoot some movies of it.

OK this is from a guy always preaching safety. My dad put up a 24 inch tractor tire for a swing for grand kids years ago. We still have it up. The kids have yet to get injured on it and it's on the 2nd generation. They may get knocked around a little but learn fast.
