i've been trying to soak it with this,

and back in the day i think it would have worked. but now with all of california's rules and regulations and such i don't think it's much better than diesel. i wouldn't be surprised if it's safe to drink.

i mean it does look better than it did, but nowhere close to the top pic.

Those top ones look like they have been blasted. That's why they look so nice. Other guys coming along that probably have used a good acid dip too.

I use Berryman's. Those carbs have been bead
blasted. I don't do that. Unless you are creating a
museum piece, that it a waste of time. IMO.

Well first off the new carb cleaner is not what it was say 10 years ago and does not work as well. Next you have to have a blast cabinet. I get them close to as clean by using a Dremal type tool and a wire wheel on a grinder but still not as good as the top pictures

I have used that typed of carb cleaner, but as Old said, It aint what it was 10 years ago. I use straight laquer thinner now. That seems to work well on degunking carbs.

Those rubber gas hoses worry me. Too easy to cut or burn through. Steel lines is the best bet. Just sayin'.

yea, there are a few things i want to do to it before i restore it. according to other pics i've seen, i don't think my air filter is OEM for the 9n ( notice my fancy hood latch ) :)

but over all i think he took good care of it. all the fluid levels were where they were supposed to be and not old. it fires right up and runs strong. i think he did what he had to do to keep it going so he could get done what he needed to get done. not so concerned about driving it in the parade :)
