There is someone on Craigslist, Louisville, Ky. farm and garden, that has a 1939 8n to sell.
He has been told that the 8n didn't come oat till 1948. He might be trying to scam some one that doesn;t know their tractors into believing its a rare bird.
How do you go about flagging a false ad?

Quoting Removed, click Modern View to see

It is, but you can put all of the front mount stuff on a side mount block. That is what someone has done here.

He probably thinks that it is an 8N because it does have a later side mount distributor 8N block.

I got one field that's about 10 miles from the home place. If I need gas while I'm over there I'm only a couple of miles from town. So I drive to the gas pump and fill whatever tractor I'm using. Last time I had one of my 8N's over there an older gentleman started a conversation with me. He knew what a 9/2/8N was as he was a retired farmer who had an 8N. He told me he had been to auctions and even the auctioneers called anything that looked like an 8N at all to include the MF TO's an 8N. I did ask an auctioneer who's pretty good about that. He told me that he knows a couple of auctioneers who while not being a crook will call them 8N's because that is what seems to bring the most money.

Ya I know an auction company that was that way till I showed them that they where not correct. Been to more then one since then and they if they see me ask if they had it listed right or not and if not ask me to tell them what it is. Last time it was a 861 with decals saying it was a 4000. When they got to it they said it has 4000 decals but we have been told it is a 861 so buy it as either and figure it out from there. The guy who got it saw I had looked it over real well and asked me about it and I showed him where the model and serial number was then he asked me to drive it and load it up for him and to help load stuff which I did

Looks more like one of them '64 8Ns to me. We had a guy in Missouri trying to sell a a 9N as 8N. He said since it looked like the 8N he use to own so that was what it was despite repeated emails telling him what it was. He did finally change his ad and it is still for sell.
I wouldn't worry with flagging the guy. If someone is seeing it on CL they have a computer and should do the research before shelling out the money for it.
You see this all the time. It gets funny at times.

Here's the ad you speak of. Looks like he forgot to paint the underside of the lift arms.

I watch for the "9N with a loader, backhoe and power steering" ads.

A lot of folks won't buy a 9N, but I like those with power steering! ;)

On Craig's list at the top of each ad is a place that says FLAG yes just click on it to flag that ad. Yep seen more then one person try to pull that and on most I e-mail them and tell them and if they do not like it I tell them hey do you enjoy selling things knowing your lieing

apparently, to many people, N series tractors are like "Kleenex".....with their limited knowledge and/or interest anything remotely similar is an "8N". "8N" is equivalent to a generic term for all related models.
