Stihl Oil mix in Gas

What harm would I have if I put the two cycle mix from Stihl, a bottle that makes one gallon, in the 8n? The Stihl sythetic/ultra fuel mix has done me very well with no issues with ethanol or carb problems.

It will not hurt anything.

I cannot imagine that it will help anything either.

Maybe 4 oz in 5 gallon of gas as people often do with ATF. I rebuilt a 8N and sold it to a friend. Before I was even done with the hood painting, and had it off the tractor, he came and got it to dig out his potatoes. He brought it back for me to finish, and when I started it to move it, it was blowing oil smoke terribly. It was blowing by so bad it smoked out the oil cap/crankcase vent and I could even hear the escaping compression coming out the oil fill tube. Of course, all sorts of things ran through my head. I finally reasoned that he may have ran it out of gas and put some 40:1 weedeater mix in it. I called and he confirmed it. I drained it and put fresh gas in it. It cleared up in seconds on restart. My heart rate and breathing returned to normal after a few minutes. :D

(quoted from post at 16:31:39 01/04/14) Moral of that story is don't loan your tractor!

Oh no. I'd never loan my tractor. This was his tractor that he'd already paid me for, before I even had the bodywork back on it. I had months of work in it, and couldn't imagine anything wrong, and just about had the big one when smoke rolled out. I'm just glad I called him before I tore into it.

ife's uncle always said old Farmalls had a habit of sticking valves, so he always put a qt of motor oil in every tank of gas....80:1 mix.

I do know that on 2 of my 172 red tigers. after I had stuck valves, when I put back together, I went with walmart 10w30 synthetic oil and no more sticky.

it's this wonderfull gas we have I think. and worse in a humid environment like I'm in. the 2 make a bad combo

I had a valve sticking in my old jeep, it had a new long block with only 5k miles.

Old guy at Napa told me to try marvel mystery oil, 1/2 qt in oil and 1/2 qt in fuel tank.

All I know is that when I started the motor, the valve was sticking, in 30 seconds it stopped and I never heard it again.

MMO is worth its weight in gold to me.

in a situation where you don't have pushrods to bend.. i don't mind trying some atf in the oil and gas to free up a sticker.. but once ya got bent pushrods.. it's surgery.. :)

May foul plugs. But you probably want a 500:1 mix instead on
a 50:1 mix. 1 bottle into 1 gallon of gas makes 50:1. 1 bottle
into 2 gallons of gas gets you 100:1. 1 bottle into 5 gallons of
gas would be about right.

Old Farmalls, e.g., F series, did not have pressure lubrication to the rocker arm shaft, but rather, oil cups on the rocker cover.

Inside the cover was an oil tray lined with a wick having extensions strategically located to drip oil onto the rocker arms.

Such Farmalls also had very weak valve springs.

If one did not fill the oil cups regularly as required and/or keep the wick (extensions) in good condition, valves would promptly stick.
