help on hydraulic pump rebild

I needed new valve chamber valves and springs and also was replacing relive valve. I found a pump repair kit on Ebay with these in it for $100 which is less than items bought separate. The piston yokes have an extra piece on them do these go to top or bottom of pump or does it matter? Also the bushing don't have a oil slot is it going to get enough oil? Had to edit this is a 49 8N.

The valve chamber springs are are bigger around but not as strong as original will this matter? I've never worked on a pump and kit was made in India.

Carl,

I replaced my pump pistons in 2012 and got the same type of replacement pistons with the extra piece. Those pistons also fit a Ferguson hydraulic pump and I have been told that those pumps use a guide rod to help keep the pistons in line. They are not used in the 8N pump. I just pointed mine down. Just make sure they clear the bottom of the pump chassis. I slathered the bushings with oil before assembly, just to make sure they had a light coating before trying to start. I also pre-oiled everything I could get to in the pump, just in case. I think the bushings have enough clearance to pull in a little oil as they move back and forth.

I found that my old valve springs were stronger than the replacement springs so I used the old ones. My logic was that since the spring is used to force the valves closed once the pump pressure is diminished, stronger springs would probably help keep pressure in the system. My rebuilt pump works great now.

Here is a link to my question on the valve springs:
Hydraulic Pump Valve Springs

Hope this helps.

Using the old springs is what I planed on doing since they had worked fine for 65yrs. I hadn't planed on replacing the yokes and bushings but since they came with the kit I'll use them. It's amazing how little wear there was on these after all those yrs. Pump was still working ok just had some pulsing from the worn and pitted chamber valves.

Can any one tell me what to torque those chamber bolts to I was thinking 55lbs but that aluminum housing scares me.

ay not comfort you, since Ferguson, but the 9N/2N pumps for ford & ferguson were interchangeable, and The Ferguson shop manual (same pump as the Fords) calls for 50-55 ft/lbs. on the valve chamber assemblies and also on the cap clamp bolt on both chambers. 38-45 lb/ft. for the pump base to tractor bolts

Thanks JMOR I had them at 45 will go to 50 tomorrow. I got the pump back together today and all those India parts fit good. I blew some air in the chamber valves and they seemed to be holding.

You know India is capable of world class engineering and really close tolerance machining when they want to - things like nuclear bombs and ICBM's for example

have a place a few miles away near Emory and kin at Alba.

(quoted from post at 12:40:05 01/04/14) I'm only 13miles from Emory we are almost next door neighbors. :)
bout 5 miles out of Emory, toward Canton, a bit off of 19.

Never seen a chamber valve cracked like that,,, worn but not cracked

Dunno were you are at but I would knock out the sleeves the control and exhaust valves operate in and go for the junk that gets trapped in the hydraulic circuit behind them...

had no idea those sleeves would come out and most likely above my ability to get them out.. I have put the pump back together the chambers got a good soaking and cleaning. Like I said in an earlier post the pump was working ok before just a little slow and pulsing. If it works a little better I can live with it I'm waiting on a warmer day to put it back in.

Good luck its allot of work to get back were you are at now... I would run that pump over to my new neighbors for a look see....
