I thought I had this prob licked when I noticed no gasket under my main needle...I could turn all the way in with no effect. After I put gasket in it kills at about 1/2 turn but no matter where I put it I cant get her to run smooth at WOT. She idles fine. Also thought I had the prob licked when I noticed loose park plug wires at the dist but that wasn't it either. Did all the spark and fuel checks....2n 6 volt points. Guess I'll check points...not many hours on them.

If you did not have the gasket, then what else in the carb is wrong? I would go completely thru carb or send it to someone who can! If it will not run smooth at wot something is wrong in carb. If it was the points it wold not run at an idle either. You might want to check the mechanical advance in the dist tho!

always verify spark first. .. do check timing and the advance mechanism too... THEN if all that checks out.. move to fuel..

I would check spark at all 4 plug wires. Blue/white and jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. Next when was the last time you dumped the water and mud out of the air filter?? From there does choking it help or hurt?? Of it helps good chance the main jet is clogged up some if it hurts then maybe set to rich.

Front mount firing order 1243 if you cross 3&4 it will start and idle ok but will miss as you throttle up. If you choke it a bit at wot will it run better? If so mixture. Points if their china get them out buy Blue Sreaks they will last years.

I'd put 4 brand new spark plugs in it before I did anything else. Then I would be absolutely certain the ignition timing is dead on, and not advanced too much.
