Point is... 8N fuel system probs. I say this because it takes 3 things for an engine to run...fuel, air and spark. I assumed the first..fuel. Because it would run for 30 sec then die.
Not had any problems having owned the tractor for 5 years. Now it won't start, corrected won't STAY running. I dont use it much, only for weed wacking and snow plowing. I use it 2 weeks a year.
I converted it to 12v 3 years ago. It has started like a champ. I quit using ethenol stuff a year ago.
I got it out to put on the chains and put on the snow plow last weekend. The fuel tank was empty and was a surprise to me. I always have at least a 1/2 tank. I might have run it dry whacking weeds last summer. But don't think so. It normally starts fast. So I put in fuel and it spupperted, and ran for 30 sec. I didn't change anything other then put some gas in. When I looked at the sediment bowl, there was a little crap in there. I cleaned it out. So I messed with the fuel valve. I found out that it should be open 2 turns. Maybe I opened it all the way into "reserve". I looked online and found ww.myfordtractors.com/fuel.shtml and found an "how to" on 8N fuel systems.
Basically said "check the 3 fuel filters" tank, bulb, elbow at carb.
First, undo the bolt at the bottom of carb...if it is free flowing then its OK. It wasn't. I got a replacement fuel shut off valve assembly to include tank filter/sediment filter and bulb. I drained the tank and flushed it with gas. Put on the new fuel shut off valves and it now runs clean to the carb. The 3rd filter at the brass elbow to the carb, I couldn't see...nadda. The fuel to the carb runs nice. Thus the tank/bulb filers are working fine. But the bolt hole at the bottom of the carb has very little, if any running through.
So, is there suppose to be a 3rd filter at the brass elbow? I assume yes. But don't see it.
At this point, because there is nothing coming out of the bottom port hole of the carb, do I replace the carb? What does that cost and where do I get one? Do I try and clean the carb? Is that easy?
